CAA exams (term two, week six): Schedule and final reminder

Our learners in year 9, 11, 12 and 13, who have been entered, are preparing for their NCEA Literacy and Numeracy Common Assessment Activities (CAA).

The schedule is below. There will be catch-up opportunities for any learner who misses their exam, on Thursday 28 and Friday 29 May.

All Rolleston College learners in all year levels will follow the normal school timetable in week six, and entered learners will only be excused from class for the duration of their assessment.

Sitting the Numeracy co-requisite exam?

Please remember to bring your CALCULATOR, a RULER, and your LAPTOP/DEVICE with you to the exam!

If you would like to use Polly, the text-to-speech tool which reads the questions to you, remember to bring your headphones.

Getting ready: The NZQA checklist

To sit these online exams, every student must have an active NZQA account.

  • Step 1: Locate your learner’s National Student Number (NSN) (this has been emailed to them).

  • Step 2: Visit the NZQA website to create or reactivate their account.

  • Top Tip: Doing this now prevents any last-minute technical stress on exam morning!

If you're stuck trying to sort your NZQA account, rest assured that there is a code we can use on the day in any last-minute situations. We support all learners to log in on the day of their assessment.

How to support your learner at home

Preparation doesn't just happen in the classroom. Here are some simple ways you can help your child feel ready:

For Literacy (Reading and Writing):

Create a reading culture: Encourage your learner to read for 15-20 minutes every night before bed. Novels, articles, and even news stories all count!

Talk about books: Ask them about what they are reading. "Reading teaches writing", and discussing ideas helps build critical thinking.

Google Classroom: Ensure they have joined the Literacy Prep group (Code: 43c6uiao).

Online practice: Encourage them to use quill.org or the NZQA "Polly" tool to practice digital exam formats.

For Numeracy:

Maths in the real world: Look for everyday opportunities to use maths, like calculating a discount at the shops or doubling a recipe.

The essentials: Remind your child they must bring a calculator, a ruler and a charged device for their Numeracy assessment.

Google Classroom: Join code 2ote5pn2 for specific revision materials.
