We're also pleased with the learner response to the “phones away for the day” approach. We've had some discussion with both learners and staff related to the beginning of the day and have settled on 8:50am as the start of day where having a phone out will have an impact on learning. Again, thank you for supporting this at home.
Good luck to all of the summer codes playing this weekend.

From our student leaders
Kia ora e te whānau, teachers, learners and friends of Horoeka Haemata. We are your 2024 head students and we'd like to introduce ourselves and our goals for the year.
This year we'd like to have a heavy focus on school culture. Having a culture within our kura is very important to us, and a legacy we want to hand over to future generations. By improving school culture we're building communities and giving our learners a sense of belonging.
We'll be heavily involved in school events to improve the culture of our school. We'll attend all school events in the sports, arts and cultural spaces. We believe that coming together as a collective and getting other students to show up and get involved will build our school pride. We hope to encourage learners to follow their passions and be who they are.
In 2024, we want to establish a positive and enjoyable learning environment for all learners at Horokea Haemata Rolleston College. We want all learners to know that they have a place here and belong in our school and community. We believe it's crucial for everyone to learn in a judgement-free environment.
We're really looking forward to 2024 and what it has to offer. As a collective, we're here to bring a student voice and help all learners have a positive year. We encourage you to come and chat with us any time during the year!
