“Schools and kura with years 7 to 13 must teach the updated English and Te Reo Rangatira curriculum, and mathematics and statistics and Pāngarau for years 0 to 13. Requiring the use of these learning areas and wāhanga ako in 2026 will give secondary schools lead-in time for implementation. The Ministry will work with NZQA to make sure NCEA achievement standards only assess content that is in the updated national curriculum.”
We will certainly be ensuring that future teacher only days and staff professional development have a strong focus on preparing for and implementing these changes.
You might have also noticed in the media some interest in the status of combined rugby teams and their place in the Premiership competition. As a school with a combined team we have sought a review of this decision to ensure that all of our Selwyn schools have the opportunity for learners to play at a high level and we hope to receive this reviewed decision in the coming days. Whatever way the decision falls we will ensure that our players have every opportunity afforded to them to continue to compete at a high level and are developing plans for all eventualities.
We are all very excited about the senior formal this weekend. It is always a fabulous occasion and we look forward to seeing our senior learners at Te Pae in all of their finery. My favourite weather app Yr.No is currently predicting fine weather so we will keep our fingers crossed for no rain to dampen spirits or flatten hairdos!
Have a great weekend

Parking
Please remind your learners to park responsibly! Learners should park in the Springston Rolleston Road car park or in the Foster Park overflow car park. Please don't park on Goulds Road where you might obstruct construction vehicles.
Signing out of school
Learners are our responsibility during school hours, so those who are leaving school to go home early, work, or attend an appointment must sign out using the tablet in student services. This is for health and safety purposes; for example in the event of an evacuation or lockdown we need to know who is on campus.
Please remind your learners to sign out, rather than calling or emailing the school to let us know they have left afterwards.
Spelling bee
The first ever Rolleston College spelling bee for year 9 to 11 learners will be in week nine! Information will be shared in Ako to all learners, who can sign up with their Ako coach. There are whānau points up for grabs! Learners can contact Mrs. Clarkson for more information.
Repurpose our food scraps!
Our food technology department is looking to practise what we teach our learners in terms of sustainability and wasting food scraps. We hope there is someone in the community who is interested in collecting our food scraps and using them as animal feed. If you or someone you know is interested, please get in touch with Mrs. Hoare.
