Brad was an outstanding man, visionary educator and a member of our senior leadership team who passed on well before his time. He loved basketball and this yearly fixture is a major event on our school calendar, and a chance to have a good tough game of basketball in his honour before the start of the season. As a St Thomas of Canterbury old boy and teacher, no matter what the result, Brad wins tonight.
It was outstanding to see so many of our Pasifika parents, grandparents and wider whānau at the fiafia night on Wednesday. The performance that we saw was testimony to the hard work of the whole team of tutors and learners and there was a lovely family friendly atmosphere. I thank Mrs Aneta Matagi, Mr Villi Vea and Alby Wilson for all their support of this group. We can’t wait to see their performance at Canterbury Polyfest tomorrow. Our group is due to perform at approximately 10am.
The other major event tomorrow is of course the Relay for Life, wit all proceeds going to the Cancer Society. It’s such a worthy cause and we hope as a school that today’s non uniform day donations will help to assist with the great work done by the Cancer Society. Mr George Inwood has done a power of work towards this worthy cause and we commend him on his efforts.
Thank you to all those who were able to come to the community meeting on Wednesday evening and those who joined on the livestream. I think our community made our position clear to the Ministry of Education and we continue to be hopeful of some movement forward to the senior campus that is needed rather than another temporary solution. Our learners deserve better. We have another meeting scheduled on Monday afternoon next week and will be able to give feedback to the community following this
Wassalaam and enjoy this busy weekend.
