It has been a great first week back here at Horoeka Haemata Rolleston College. We have welcomed back our travelling group from Japan and are enjoying enviously viewing the photos of our group still travelling in France. We know that it's not by luck that these opportunities are able to take place and I would like to acknowledge the huge amount of work put in by staff and parents to plan, fundraise for and save in order for our young people to have these positive and life changing experiences.

You will see published on our website our confirmed ERO reports. We are very happy with what this review outlines about our school and are excited about the next directions to take.

Te Ara Huarau is the evaluation approach that the Education Review Office (ERO) is using in our school. This is a developmental approach to evaluation where ERO and our school work together over time, rather than one off review that happened previously. Te Ara Huarau is used in most English-medium state and state-integrated schools.

ERO maintains a regular view programme to evaluate and report on the education and care of people in schools. Our school worked with ERO and contributed to writing our School Evaluation Report. The reports reflects and informs our strategic priorities and direction for improvement in one or more areas that are important as we work together to improve outcomes for all our learners. ERO, like us, has a strong focus on equality and excellence.

Future reporting will show our progress and achievement towards meeting the areas for improvement in this report. Public reports like the School Evaluation Report are published on ERO’s website

A Board Assurance Report has also been published that shows how we are meeting regulatory and legislative requirements as well as a report on our Provision for International Students.

We had our first mediation with the Ministry of Education in the holidays related to getting the second campus plans back on track. Our second meeting was this morning and we had some gains in terms of agreement on the number of temporary spaces needed at the new site, commitment to moving the temporary buildings from the current site to the new site, allowing the grounds landscaping on the current site to be completed. There was a commitment to doubling the size of the fields. The master plan was also discussed. So there's some good progress on stage one of development. We've told the Ministry that we will be relentless in our quest for the design and construction of stage two and ensuring that this promptly follows the delivery of stage one.

We look forward to the start of many of our winter sports codes over the weekend and wish Issy Stanners the best of luck at her singing gig at Robert Harris over the weekend.

Ngā mihi nui,

Rachel
