Principal's pānui

Talofa lava,

It has been a vibrant Samoa Language Week this week. The theme 'Tautua i le alofa, manuia le lumana'i – Serve in love for a blessed future' fits well with our school values of building communities and transforming futures. It focuses on tautua (service) and aims to clearly express the significance of service that is founded on love – love is the driving force of service.

No matter what service looks like or who is doing it, service is accomplished through the power of love.

I had the privilege of attending the Secondary Principals of New Zealand conference over the last week. With so much change in education in New Zealand, it was great to be able to engage in some new learning and also hear from Erica Stanford about what is to come for education nationwide.

Today’s teacher only day allowed the teachers the same opportunity for new learning with subject associations and various other organisations offering training and professional development in many areas of curriculum with a particular emphasis on NCEA level 1.

We are really delighted that the council is enacting some speed limits changes around Selwyn schools.

Some things that you will notice are:

  • 30km/h speed limit during peak times: most schools will have reduced speed limits from 8:30 to 9am and 2:45 to 3:15pm.
  • Variable speed signs: flashing signs on main roads and static signs on side roads will indicate the new 30km/h limit. Flashing signs will turn on during peak times and switch off outside those periods.
  • Timing: the new variable speed limits will be in effect once the signs are installed outside each school. Motorists must follow the new speed limits once displayed.

The weather is looking good for the weekend so I hope that you all have the opportunity to spend some time with family enjoying it.

Manuia le aso
