Principal's pānui

Tēnā koutou katoa,

Wow, what a week it has been! A big congratulations to all of the year 9s for their awesome behaviour and attitudes on camp. It has been an absolute pleasure to hear all the positive reports from staff and learners. Even those who had a not-so-great weather experience still came back smiling and with some new memories.

Tonight, our senior boys' basketball team goes into battle with our friendly rivals, St. Thomas of Canterbury College for the Brad Milne Cup. This is a fiercely fought-over annual competition that commemorates one of the greats of both education and basketball, Mr Brad Milne. Brad left us well before his time in 2020. Brad was a pupil, then a teacher and senior leader at St Thomas, before coming across to Rolleston as a deputy principal. He was loved and respected by all who knew him.

Looking ahead to next week, we look forward to seeing our year 9 and 10 parents and caregivers at the junior learning conversations, and many of our Pasifika community for Fiafia night on Thursday.

Mauri ora e te whānau!

Rachel Skelton

Junior learning conservations
To accommodate our learning conversations, the school day will be adjusted for ALL LEARNERS:

  • Monday 17 March and Monday 31 March: school finishes early, and buses run just after 2pm.
  • Thursday 20 March and Thursday 3 April: school starts later at 9:55am.

Our bus provider has advised that morning bus schedules cannot be altered due to other commitments. As a result, buses will continue to run at their normal times in the mornings. For learners arriving early, we will open the G9 classroom as a waiting space until school starts.

Absences and appointments
If your learner is leaving school grounds during the day, or arriving late, please contact us using the app, by phone, or email absences@rollestoncollege.nz by 8:30am on the day of the absence.
We need the following details:

  • Learner's name
  • Ako group
  • Length of absence (whole day, part day, arriving late, leaving early)
  • Reason for absence.

All unexplained absences are followed up on with parents/caregivers.
