Principal's pānui

Kia ora e te whānau,

Welcome back to term three. I hope the school break offered your whānau a moment of rest and reconnection.

Term three is one of the most important of the school year. For our senior learners, it's a critical time for consolidating learning, completing internal assessments, and preparing for upcoming mock exams. For our junior learners, it’s a chance to deepen learning, reflect on progress, and build strong habits heading into term four.

We also want to acknowledge the amazing efforts of our learners who represented Rolleston College during the South Island Secondary Schools Netball Tournament over the break. Their commitment, teamwork, and pride in representing our school were outstanding—congratulations to all involved, and thank you to our staff and whānau who supported them.

Term three is a pivotal term—especially for senior learners—with internal assessments ramping up, mock exams, and important decisions around progression. For younger learners, it's a time to build on foundations and engage deeply in school life.

To maximise success this term, we're asking families to help with:

  1. Prioritising attendance, especially during weeks of assessments;

  2. Supporting at-home learning routines—especially around internal assessments and NCEA readiness; and

  3. Engaging with event nights like learning conversations, Night of the Arts, the X‑Factor final, and prizegivings.

As always, our staff are here to support your child’s learning, wellbeing, and aspirations. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions or want to discuss your child’s progress.

Let’s make term three a time of focus, growth, and pride—for our learners and our community.

Ngā mihi nui,

Rachel Skelton
