Careers and development: 11 July


Term two was the biggest term yet for our Rolleston College careers department. It started with a new careers advisor, Rachael Mockford, joining the team and hitting the ground running. We have had heaps of other activities and events on: 

  • FutureFest—our careers expo

  • Business and community partnership breakfast—hosting local organisations and businesses to showcase the school

  • Mock Interviews—all our year 12s had the opportunity to take part in an interview with an employer

  • DARE—our year 13 learners interested in health pathways at the University of Otago spent the morning at Otago Health School  

  • Girls in Hi-Vis—both Higgins Contractors and Isaac Construction hosted our girls to showcase the infrastructure industry

  • Aukaha Tau—a group of Māori learners spent the day at UC and experienced uni life as Māori students

  • Year 12 Discovery Day—130 of our year 12 learners went along to lectures at UC and learnt all about tertiary study

  • National Signmaking Day—a group went and visited some sign making businesses in Christchurch 

  • Te Aukaha—a group of year 11s learnt about entrepreneurship and pitched business ideas

  • Alumni visit—Muzammil Khan talked about first year at uni and life in the halls at Otago

  • STAR courses—we’ve run first aid and health and safety courses as well as get food basics for our learning support class

  • Scholarship presentation—to encourage our year 13 cohort to get applying!

  • Engineering visit to Hamilton Jet

  • Ara whānau evening—we hosted Ara Institute to share info on their courses and support for learners

  • CareerWisewe launched our awesome new school careers website

  • A range of guest speakers have been in to lots of classes across the school to share their experiences.

 

It's been busy! We can't wait to see what term three brings.

 

Learn to Fly open day

Canterbury Aero Club will host this open day this Sunday 13 July.
