Principal's pānui

What a show! I am still buzzing after last night’s Showquest. What a superb occasion for our Rolleston College learners. In our first year at the event it was just amazing to see the level of professional performance from our learners and their message about acting Outside the Box in terms of the representation of women in our society was a powerful one.

A huge thank you to our wonderful dance teacher Jemma Dalley for her hard work bringing everything together and allowing the creative genius of Ella Davies and Lucy Dunnlogan to shine. People often talk about the strength that Rolleston College has in their sporting opportunities, but the last two weeks have certainly highlighted the huge strength in both the creative and performing arts.

Next week we celebrate Matariki. One of the key features of Matariki is the concept of whakapapa, which refers to the interconnectedness of all living things and the importance of family and community. One of my respected colleagues Harry Romana, principal of Mairehau High School spoke at our Secondary Schools Principals’ meeting today of the importance of Matariki being a time for young people to reflect on who they are and where they come from. It is a time for all of us to reflect on the past year and set intentions for the future, with a focus on personal growth and community wellbeing. Many people take this time to spend with family, engage in acts of service, volunteerism, and giving back to their communities.

We hope that all of our families are able to find some time to spend time together enjoying each other’s company.

Kia pai tō mutunga wiki,

Rachel

Te Ihukawa survey

Researchers at the Education Review Office (ERO) are doing new research about NCEA level 1. They want to know about your child's learning and assessment this year because there have been some recent changes. Your answers can help with future decisions about the NCEA qualification and support for the school. Please complete the survey.

Year 11 learners should complete the student survey.

Parking

Please remind your learners to park responsibly! Learners should park in the Springston Rolleston Road car park or in the Foster Park overflow car park. Please don't park on Goulds Road where you might obstruct construction vehicles.

Signing out of school

Learners are our responsibility during school hours, so those who are leaving school to go home early, work, or attend an appointment must sign out using the tablet in student services. This is for health and safety purposes; for example in the event of an evacuation or lockdown we need to know who is on campus.

Please remind your learners to sign out, rather than calling or emailing the school to let us know they have left afterwards.

Have your contact details changed?

If any of your information has changed, e.g., address, phone numbers, email, emergency contacts, changes in circumstances, please let our enrolments team know at admin@rollestoncollege.nz.
