Meet your Hōtoke captains!

Kia ora, our names are Finn and Jean, and we are your 2024 Hōtoke captains. Our job as your captains for this year is to encourage learners to do their best with anything related to our particular whanau or any other sort of help that students may need.

We are thrilled to be a part of this year's upcoming Winterfest which is a fantastic opportunity that brings out the best in our school community, fostering camaraderie, friendly competition, and school spirit. Each house will compete in various athletic challenges, allowing everyone to showcase their unique talents and contribute to their house's success. Besides Winterfest, we hope to see all whānau participate in any and all competitions and show their whānau spirit.

To better introduce ourselves as this year's Hōtoke captains, here is a small section about us and who we are.

My name is Jean. I grew up in South Africa but moved to New Zealand around four years ago. I'm currently working towards applying to the Auckland School of Medicine.

Some of my hobbies include spearfishing, scuba diving, and most sports involving the outdoors or water.

I am currently taking bio, chem, physics, math labs and calculus here at school and would be more than happy to help anyone who may need it relating to those subjects.

I applied to be a school leader here at Rolleston College to better myself in a community I didn't know as well as I wanted to, and hopefully leave a meaningful impact somewhere.

My name is Finn. I went to Rolleston Primary school and have attended Rolleston College since the beginning of year 9. I am currently working towards getting into the University of Canterbury.

In school I am currently taking English, physics, bio, chemistry and sport which—like my co-captain Jean—I would also be more than happy to offer advice and assistance to anyone who may need it, regarding these subjects.

Alongside my academic pursuits, I am also a part of the Rolleston College first XI football team. I have been a part of this team since the beginning of year 11. I play football outside of school as well and have done since I was seven years old. If you have any topics of debate or discussion regarding football, come talk to me and we can have a good yarn.

I applied to be a school leader here at Horoeka Haemata Rolleston College because I wanted to give back to the school and community which have given me so many great opportunities and memories since arriving here in 2020. Being a leader is a great way to be seen as a role model and I wanted to help shape the next upcoming years of learners wanting to step into leadership roles.
