Rolleston College Horoeka Haemata offers Reorua – a bilingual learning vehicle which covers Connected, Literacy, and Numeracy, and Physical Education. Learning occurs within kaupapa Māori contexts, and aims to incorporate te reo Māori as an instructional language fifty to eighty per cent of the time. Students will learn and lead mihi, karaki and waiara, and when such tikanga is appropriate.
Learners in our Reorua programme will be part of Ako Haemata, our kaupapa Māori Ako class. We have high standards for behaviour, attendance, and uniform, and require a commitment to involvement in extracurricular kapa haka.
We also require whānau to commit to supporting our kaupapa through growing use of te reo Māori at home, and volunteering their time to support our extracurricular programme (for example; attending whānau hui, and support with activities and preparing kai for noho marae, kapa haka wānanga, and kaupapa Māori trips and celebrations).
