What an absolutely incredible milestone 2026 has been for Rolleston College Horoeka Haemata! With the official opening of our stunning new senior campus – Te Kura Tuarua – on the corner of Selwyn and Springston Rolleston Roads, our dream of becoming one school across two specialised campuses became a reality in February 2026. The campus is being built in three stages. It opened with Stage 1, and Stage 2a is currently under construction.
Since then, there has been an undeniable buzz of energy in the air. Seeing our year 12 and 13 learners step into a space purpose-built for their futures is nothing short of amazing. This campus represents a massive leap forward, giving our seniors a tailored, pre-tertiary environment to develop self, build communities, and truly transform their futures. Te Kura Tuarua is already feeling like a vibrant, mature, and inspiring place to learn and grow.
The historic year kicked off in the most beautiful way on Monday 2 February 2026. To officially ground them in their new home, our year 12 and 13 learners were welcomed to the site with a powerful mihi whakatau. Whānau Haemata did an exceptional job leading the welcome, filling the new campus with a stirring, heartfelt haka, resonant whaikōrero and beautiful waiata. This special ceremony brought our community together, wrapping our senior learners in the school spirit and ensuring they felt an immediate sense of belonging and tūrangawaewae (a place to stand).
Since that momentous first day, Te Kura Tuarua has transformed into a bustling hub of high-level learning, leadership, and connection. The design of the campus has completely proven its value, providing specialised, state-of-the-art science, technology and physical education spaces tailored specifically for senior subjects and NCEA success. We are extremely excited about the next stages being built; including our visual arts, digital technology, fabrics technology, English and media studies, languages learning spaces, and our hauora and administration block.
A look into daily life on the senior campus reveals just how active our learners have been:
Collaborative learning and support: From lively classroom discussions to student-led initiatives, our seniors are making the space their own. Regular academic support systems are already thriving, including our popular lunchtime maths tutorials and the social science lunchtime club, where learners collaborate on advanced assessments.
Hui and celebrations: The campus has hosted numerous hui, advisory sessions, and community gatherings designed to foster a mature, independent culture. Our senior leaders have also been hard at work keeping the bond alive with Te Kura Tuatahi (our junior campus), crossing over to mentor younger students and help run major school celebrations.
Events and community action: Beyond the classroom, our seniors are contributing to our wider community. In term one we hosted our business and community partnership breakfast, which saw a record number of locals coming together to network and hear about how they can be involved in our school community. In term two, our head students represented Rolleston College at the Rolleston ANZAC Day service, our year 13 events leaders helped at the local Pink Breakfast fundraiser, and our media leaders were official photographers at Selwyn Sings.
While we are enjoying every single square metre of our new space, the Rolleston College story isn't stopping here!
The opening of this campus is just the first step in a multi-stage master plan. Future construction phases will introduce even more advanced specialised facilities and extended green spaces to accommodate our rapidly growing Selwyn community.
As we watch the physical structures evolve, we are seeing our strong school culture continue to flourish. We want to extend a massive thank you to our incredible staff and supportive whānau/community, and our pioneering senior learners who have brought Te Kura Tuarua to life this year. The future is exceptionally bright at Horoeka Haemata Rolleston College!
