Devin Hunt's cadets volunteering

What got Devin Hunt into volunteering in the first place?

Devin got into volunteering randomly when he decided that it would be a great idea to give his time to others. Devin mostly does this through the NZCF (New Zealand Cadet Forces).

What volunteering has Devin been involved with?

Most of his volunteering hours come from his time at cadets. Giving his time and hours for the benefit of Devin’s fellow cadets and officers, while also working on improving himself. He does cadets every Tuesday night and occasional weekend activities, for example, sailing, competition practices and ceremony duties.

What benefits is this work having in the community?

For Devin, being a cadet has a lot of responsibility. The responsibility of being an NCO definitely helps him push himself to work harder for those around him, and also uphold those core values of the NZCF.

What is a particular experience from Devin’s volunteering that stands out to him, and why?

The particular experience that sparked his volunteering mindset was the Limitless conference in 2023. He came to school with a few peers to organize lunch and help guide visiting teachers to various stations around the campus.

What motivates Devin to continue volunteering, even when it gets challenging?

Devin mentioned the experiences that he gains out of his volunteering hours inspires himself to continue.

What did Devin say to others interested in volunteering?

“Cadets is a great way to get your hours up, so if you are interested in learning life skills, definitely consider joining cadets.”
