Principal's pānui: 6 March 2026

Tēnā koutou e te whānau,

It's been great to see some good weather the last couple of days!

This week our year 9 learners headed away on camp, marking one of the first big shared experiences of their high school journey. Camp is always a highlight of the year, not just because of the activities involved, but because of the opportunity it provides for connection, growth, and belonging. It creates space for friendships to form, for confidence to grow, and for learners to discover new strengths in themselves and in one another.

Across the week we saw many examples of our E Tū Tāngata values in action. Learners supported one another through challenges, encouraged their peers to give things a go, and stepped forward as leaders within their groups. These are powerful moments that help young people understand that they have value, that we succeed together, and that others truly matter.

A whakataukī that reflects this spirit is
Nāu te rourou, nāku te rourou, ka ora ai te iwi
With your basket and my basket, the people will thrive

Finally, I would like to sincerely thank the staff who attended camp and the many others who worked behind the scenes to organise it. These experiences require significant time, care, and commitment, and we are very grateful for the dedication shown to ensuring our learners have these opportunities.

For those rowers competing at South Island Secondary Schools Rowing Championshipsthis weekend: we hope the wind dies down and races can resume, and to our cricketers: good luck!

Have a lovely restful weekend.

Ngā manaakitanga,

Rachel
