Alumni journeys: Jayda Curnard

A member of our first graduating class, Jayda always knew she wanted to be a flight attendant.

Since finishing school, she headed straight to the New Zealand School of Tourism and has recently graduated.

"I'm still living in Christchurch, but I'm hoping in the next couple of years I'll be living somewhere like Dubai and flying Emirates."

Jayda says she made the most of career days offered by Rolleston College.

"I really loved the career days at school. Even back in year 9 I knew I wanted to be a flight attendant, so when career day came around I was able to attend my future provider and learn more about what it has to offer."

"Rolleston College gave us so many opportunities and I'm so thankful for that. They really do try to do what's best for you."

Jayda's advice for current learners is to focus on what you want to do in the future and choose classes based on your career aspirations, take advantage of all the opportunities you can, and be kind to your teachers.

"The teachers are really trying their best to set you up for what's to come: so you don't feel the pressure as much; so you have an idea of what you're going to do; and prepare you for when you leave.

For 13 years it's routine to go to school, and then one day it's gone and suddenly you're on your own!

I felt strange when I didn't have the support of my teachers anymore. I felt I should have listened more, and asked more questions, but I got there in the end!"

Congratulations to Jayda on her recent graduation, and we wish her all the best for her career in the skies.
