Andrew Gardner, Sean Palmer, Tiaan Calitz and Josh Winfield are your Rolleston College representatives at the Smokefree Rockquest Canterbury/Waitaha regional final on Saturday 8 June at Ngaio Marsh Theatre.
The four year 13s said they want to "throw down real hard", "blow some minds", and place at the final.
Andrew and Sean provide vocals, with Andrew on rhythm guitar and Sean playing bass; Tiaan plays lead guitar and Josh plays drums. They have varying levels of experience, with the three guitarists playing for about three to five years each. Of the quartet, Josh has been honing his skills the longest, with ten years of experience on percussion.
They all contribute to songwriting.
The band has undergone some changes over the years, but their current lineup has been working together since Andrew moved to Rolleston College from Darfield High School. He was previously a drummer for Artisan, another band who will feature at the regional final.
Indefinite Descent is a metal/metalcore band, saying they have a bolder sound than rock.
Their advice for aspiring musicians is to work hard.
“We’re not pros!” says Josh.
“It’s only the people that try their hardest that become successful," says Andrew.
"Be unique," adds Tiaan. "You need something unique, or you won’t stand out. That’s pretty key."
The boys are also part of the production band, and will perform in our school production of Grease, The Musical on 14-16 August.
We wish Indefinite Descent all the best at the regional final and can't wait to hear how they do!
