He Iti Pūhihi o Rangatahi, our kapa haka collaboration with Lincoln High School Te Kura Tuarua o Waihora and Ellesmere College Te Kāreti o Waihora, enjoyed a noho here at Rolleston College and gave a beautiful performance for Matariki on Friday 28 June.
Kapa haka tutors Hākui Sharlene and Matua Tim also took our learners to New Brighton beach on Friday morning to watch the Matariki star cluster rise in the early morning sky. This was followed by a dawn ceremony at the college, and the performance later in the morning. We enjoyed hāngī and parāoa parai (fry bread) following the performance.
We're looking forward to supporting this kaupapa as the group prepares to compete in regional and national kapa haka competitions next year.
Huge thank you to Brita Theewis for organising this event, and our other kaiako reo for their support.
You can watch a short video of one of the waiata on our Facebook page.
