Exciting new science club at Rolleston College

We are thrilled to announce the launch of our new science club at Rolleston College, which kicked off last week with a bang! Held every second Monday from term three onwards, the club meets in lab SC1 from 3:15 to approximately 4 pm.

The club is open to students of all year levels, a safe space for curious minds and budding scientists.

Our science club is led by an enthusiastic team of year 13 learners, our "Science Leaders". These seniors are passionate about science and are eager to share their knowledge and inspire younger learners.

In our first session, learners from across all year levels came together to build air-powered cars using balloons. This hands-on activity was not only fun but also challenged them to think critically and make modifications to improve their car designs.

One of the highlights was racing their creations, where learners competed to see whose car could go the fastest and farthest. It was inspiring to witness the tuākana-tēina relationship between the older and younger learners, as they collaborated and supported each other throughout the activity.

The Rolleston Spirit dispositions of 'be curious' and 'be able to communicate and connect' is what our science club is all about. We look forward to many more exciting sessions and encourage all students to join us for a fun-filled, hands-on experience.

See you in the lab!
