Sporting excellence at Rolleston College: A recap of 2024

Kia ora from Ayva, Caitlin, Oliver, Sam, and James, your sports leaders for 2024 at Horoeka Haemata! As we stride into the heart of the year, we're thrilled to celebrate the outstanding achievements of our learners across a spectrum of sports.

In the realm of athletics, Rolleston College has showcased its prowess at the Canterbury Schools Athletics Finals. Our talented athletes have clinched numerous top spots: Caitlin Baxter soared to 1st place in U16 girls' long jump with an impressive 5.00m leap, while Judah Lodoviki dominated the U14 boys long jump with a 5.38m effort. Conner Woodcock triumphed in U14 boys triple jump, and Taylan Endicott-Davies and Cooper Ruri secured commendable second places in U15 boys shotput and discus respectively.

Zoe Hooper and Eden Innes blazed down the track, each claiming first in multiple sprint events. These accomplishments underscore our commitment to athletic excellence and highlight the dedication of our students.

In netball, our senior A team has earned a spot in Supernet, showcasing their skills both on Wednesday nights at Rangi Ruru and on Saturdays while they play for Burnham. Additionally, many of our learners have been selected for the Selwyn rep netball teams, which is a further testament to their talent and hard work.

On the hockey field, our XI boys team now compete in Division 1 every Wednesday, embodying resilience and teamwork with each match.

Swimming stars Laura Menzies and Millie Long continue to shine brightly, achieving multiple podium finishes at recent events. Millie's exceptional performance has earned her a place on New Zealand's 2024 Tri-series squad, a remarkable achievement that reflects her dedication and skill.

The excitement continues to build with our basketball teams, as the girls' Whelan team and boys' Thompson team prepare to open our new gym. Their upcoming dual header matches on July 2nd promise thrilling competition, with the Whelan team facing Hillmorton and the Thompson team taking on Cashmere.

Looking ahead, Rolleston College gearing up for several exciting inter-school competitions. We have the beachball competition at the end of term 2, offering more students a chance to engage in sports. Additionally, our secondary schools' winter tournament week will feature various winter sports teams competing. These events are great opportunities for students to get involved and showcase their athletic talents.

We would love to hear about any sporting achievements from outside of school, feel free to send us photos and details to either us or the sports department.
