Winter tournament week

Congratulations to all our athletes who competed in various sports last week at winter tournament events around the South Island.

We sent teams to badminton, basketball, equestrian, football, hockey, netball and rugby events.

Our performance of the week goes to our badminton players: Emma Canovan won the singles event, and teamed up with Hillary Malendes to win the doubles. Outstanding!

Our boys' football team placed sixth in their division, a week after playing in the Canterbury School Sport final and narrowly losing to Burnside High School.

Special congratulations to MVP Ben Karon, and to Sena Benseman for earning his 50 game plaque; Stan Blair and Tiaan Calitz for earning their 25 game badges!

Both of our hockey teams (boys' and girls') placed tenth in their respective tournaments. Isaiah Sands earned his 50 game plaque – amazing!

Congratulations to Emily Allcorn and Kate Herridge-Collins who earned their 25 game badges! Grace Dodson also earned her 50 game plaque – huge achievements and we're stoked to have you all on our team.

Our senior girls' netball team placed 22nd in the A grade, after entering the tournament ranked 30th. This is a remarkable improvement, especially considering they were in the B grade last year.

Congratulations to Hannah Milne, who earned her 50 game plaque. Hannah and Bry Scott were named tournament MVPs!

In Dunedin, both junior and senior boys' basketball teams played admirably with the junior boys placing eleventh and senior boys finishing in ninth place. Congratulations to Max Molloy who earnt his 50 game plaque! An incredible accomplishment.

Our girls' football team finished their campaign with a 1-0 win over Lincoln High School to finish eleventh.

Our U15 boys' rugby team placed seventh in their division, with Benny Middleton named MVP.

Our equestriennes competed at McLean's Island in Christchurch, under excellent direction from team rider Emily Gameson.

A huge thank you to all of our volunteer umpires and referees, without whom we would not be able to attend tournaments like these!

Jenny Walker (girls' netball)

Mel Wild (girls' hockey)

Quinn Richards-White (junior boys' basketball)

Sophie Currie (senior boys' basketball)

Garyth Harris (boys' hockey).

Thank you to our teachers and staff who accompanied the teams on their tournament excursions:

Cam Chalmers (junior basketball)

Connor Page (senior basketball)

Seb Curry (girls' football)

Daniel Garvey (boys' football)

Karen Hoare (boys' hockey)

Jessica Prior (girls' hockey)

Te Rina Keno (netball)

We had a team of sports coordinators and teachers looking after our equestriennes, but we want to acknowledge the amazing management of year 12 learner Emily Gameson.
