Golf: Canterbury secondary schools championships
It was a good day out for the golf boys on Monday 24 March at Avondale Golf club, with Rolleston College teams finishing tenth and twelfth out of 35 teams in the Gross competition and second and fifteenth in the Stableford competition.
Special mention to Josh Fitzgerald who finished ninth out of 120 competitors with a Gross score of 72. Zach Tappin also finished fourth in the Stableford event.
Girls' volleyball: New Zealand secondary schools championships
On day one, our girls remained in high spirits despite two losses. They had a close game against Karamu High School just falling short in both sets. They took some quality rest and bounced back on day two with two three-set wins over Waiuku College and Te Aroha College.
The girls' final result was sixth place in their divison, an impressive performance! We are super proud of this team.
Boys' volleyball: South Island secondary schools satellite tournament
Congratulations to our senior A boys' team who took first place in the satellite tournament! These boys go from strength to strength—what an achievement!
Girls' softball: New Zealand secondary schools championships (division 1)
Our girls dominated the South Island competition last year and were promoted to division 1. On day one of competition they took losses to St Mary's College 8-3, and Rosehill College 9-3. They had tough games against One Tree Hill College, losing 15-2, followed by a game against Whitby College where they went down 18-4.
However, the girls rallied impressively on Thursday, with big wins against One Tree Hill (15-0) and St Mary's (8-6).
Our girls played off for third at 9am on Friday morning: taking the win over Sacred Heart 6-2; a huge results for this team in their first year in this division!
Mountain biking: South Island secondary schools championships
The SISS mountain bike championships saw our boys' relay team consist of Luke Angland, George Hautler and Fletcher Blair. Whilst Luke had a great start and saw him come through the first turn in fifth place, Fletcher hit a rut and bounced off a tree stump—almost kissing grass—but got up and back on the bike again and came in to tag George. George set off at a fast pace only to can off too, which bought the team into seventh place! A fantastic day out in the mountains, and luckily no injuries!
Nathan Roy and Jack Snowdon both competed in the U17 boys' downhill and enduro races during the weekend. This was Nathan's first enduro race and unfortunately he suffered from a broken chain at the start of a big climb. Jack had a small crash in the first stage.
Top results all round, and we are stoked for this group of boys. Well done!
Boys' 3v3 basketball: South Island secondary schools tournament
More impressive results from our basketball team as they won the tournament and qualified for the national championships. Congratulations!
Dressage: FEI Pony championships
Not technically part of tournament, but another impressive result from our resident equestrienne, Paige Fitzgerald. Paige and her pony Greenmoor Euphoria took three wins from three starts to win the FEI pony championships.
