How much more effective could we be if the whole ecosystem around rangatahi are using the same approaches that we do?!
Youth Development Champions Project to the rescue! We have shaped our Positive Youth Development in Aotearoa (PYDA) training into a three-part parenting series to give parents ideas, insights and strategies that we know really work.
It is often a struggle for parents to access support, so these workshops are available to you completely free of charge.
Over three fun, interactive workshops, you'll identify where you're already strong so you can be more intentional in those areas and feel more confident in your approaches.
And thanks to our team's depth of experience in working with young people, alongside the collective experience from other parents in the room, you'll walk away with loads of new things to try as well.
Parents are the most important, most influential people in a young person's life, yet get the least training on how to develop healthy, resilient kids. If you would value some extra insights and strategies for things you can try at home, check out the series details below.
Everyone is welcome, but please note seats are limited, so be sure to RSVP as soon as you can.
7pm to 9pm on Tuesday 27 May, Tuesday 3 June, and Tuesday 10 June
Rolleston Community Centre, 94 Rolleston Drive, Rolleston
These events can be attended individually, but it's even better if you come to all three.
Series outline
Tues 27 May: Strengths-based parenting
Recognising What’s working—in you and your kids
Discover how to parent from a place of strength, not stress. In this practical, discussion-based workshop, we’ll explore how your own strengths—as well as those of your family as a whole, and your teenager—can be used to build connection, confidence, and calm at home. You’ll leave with a strengths assessment tool to use after the workshop, and new insights and ideas from other parents who are navigating similar challenges.
Tues 3 June: Respectful relationships
Strengthening connection, not just managing behaviour
This session focuses on building meaningful, respectful relationships with your teen, beyond just managing the day-to-day operational tasks of parenting. Through fun activities and engaging discussions, we’ll explore how what respectful relationships look like and how to connect more deeply and support emotional wellbeing. You’ll leave with ideas to use straight away, as well as the encouragement of a community of parents doing the same.
Tues 10 June: Boundaries and advocacy
Creating structure with—not for—your teenager
As young people grow, the way we guide and support them needs to grow too. In this final session, we’ll discuss co-creating boundaries, when to step in as an advocate, and how to support independence without stepping back too far. You’ll reflect on insights from previous sessions, share ideas with other parents, and leave with practical strategies for navigating the next phase with confidence.
