Hockey
Congratulations to Ciaran Harris and Eden Innes on making their Canterbury Hockey U18 debuts on over the weekend at the Mainland Cup.
Ciaran and Eden have both been selected in the U18 Canterbury B team teams to represent the region at the upcoming national tournaments in North Harbour and in Timaru respectively at the end of June.
This is an incredible achievement for Ciaran and Eden, making them the first hockey players in Rolleston College history to make a Canterbury representative side at this level. What an honour for you both!
Congratulations to Aidan Barker and Jayden Hill who were presented with their 50 game plaques last week.
Girls' first XI hockey
It was a tough game for our girls' first XI on the Foster Park turf yesterday. Cashmere proved to be a very formidable opponent, as we suspected they would be, and unfortunately after conceding two early goals in the first quarter, we then let in a third goal making it 0–3 to Cashmere heading into the half time break.
It was always going to be a hard task to pull the game back against a quality opponent, but the girls kept in the fight and improved as the second half progressed. Cashmere scored again in the third quarter making the score 0–4, but then we pulled one back with an excellent bit of skill and execution from Beth to reduce the deficit 1–4. Cashmere nailed the door shut with one final blow in the final quarter to take the win 5–1.
Despite the score, there were still a lot of positive signs throughout the match with lots of opportunities to convert chances into goals at the attacking end of the turf.
Player of the day: Beth Soper-Hazlett for showing plenty of grit and execution of skills on the turf throughout the game.
Girls' second XI hockey
Our girls' second XI had a really late game last night in the pouring rain at Nunweek Park.
They played an amazing game and won 2–0 vs Rangi Ruru.
We were stoked with how hard the girls kept giving 110%, and despite the horrible conditions, they really started working together as a team. We had multiple opportunities to score and were stoked to capitalise on two beautiful goals.
Player of the day was too hard to choose so it was given to two girls who were really consistent and played their positions well. Congratulations to Charlie Campbell and Jelena Unkovich.
Netball
Our senior A team secured another win, this time 36–21 over Middleton Grange.
Year 10A team went down 45-11 against Rangiora 10A, and our 9A team also chalked up a loss to Cashmere 9A, 31–24.
Other netball fixtures were cancelled due to the weather conditions in Christchurch.
Badminton
It was a mixed bag of results for our badminton teams, with ou boys' A team going down vs Christchurch Boys' High School 8–1.
Our boys' B team were victorious with a 7–2 against Papanui High School, and both our girls' teams took losses vs St Margaret's College teams.
Swimming
Laura Menzies has been selected in the New Zealand Youth Development team to compete in Australia during July.
This is in recognition of Laura's phenomenal performances in swimming including golds in the 100m backstroke and 200m backstroke, and silver in the 50m backstroke, at the New Zealand age group championships in April, and a host of other titles and medals from other meets in the last year.
Football
Our girls' first XI battled in the rain to a nil all finish vs Christchurch Girls' High School, while our boys' first XI went down 5–0 to Lincoln High School.
All other football games were cancelled due to the weather conditions.
