Rolleston College uniform refresh

Last year Rolleston College conducted a uniform review.

40.26% of people who completed the uniform review said that comfort and functionality was the most important factor. We have spent the last year working with different student groups to design and change some uniform items to ensure we meet the expectations of the learners.

The updated uniform is the result of a thorough consultation process. The survey was completed by 1024 respondents which identified key themes. These included the need for warmer garment options, greater variety to meet the needs of all learners with different price points, and lower overall cost for families.

By moving to a single uniform (rather than separate junior and senior uniforms), families will see a reduction in uniform costs over a five-year period. A variety of learner focus groups then drilled down into the themes and feedback on the conceptual designs.

All learners involved in the process were aiming to develop a uniform that promotes unity across both campuses. Referring to the "One School, Two Campuses" slogan, 72.72% of respondents believed this was either important or very important, as we look to open the new campus in 2026.

We have worked closely with NZ Uniforms to ensure that all new items are competitively priced. The new uniform will be available for purchase from 1 December 2025, in time for the 2026 school year. The kilt will be available from March 2026 in time for the winter terms.

To support families through this transition, there will be a phased rollout of the new uniform, outlined in the table below. There will be further information promoting the new uniform items and highlighting the discontinued items in the near future. Please see the attached storyboard for a glimpse of the new uniform for 2026.

We understand that uniform changes may raise questions. If you have any questions or concerns or would like more information, please contact Cameron Winsloe.

We’re excited to introduce a refreshed uniform that gives our learners more choice, enhanced comfort, and a stronger sense of identity, reflecting who we are as we step confidently into the future as a two-campus school. Thank you for your ongoing support as we work together to ensure this transition is smooth, inclusive, and something our whole school community can be proud of.
