Operation Wrapped in Remembrance is a community knitting/weaving/crocheting project for our veterans.
This year marks 80 years since the end of World War II, 75 years since the beginning of the Korean War, 65 years since the end of the Malayan Emergency and 50 years since the end of the Vietnam War. This organisation is aiming to do something for the veterans who are still with us from these wars to let them know they are remembered and their service even all these years on is appreciated.
If any learners, staff or members of the community and families who would like to craft a scarf or two, it would be greatly appreciated. They can be any ply, any pattern and we are looking for more masculine or neutral colours generally, as those who served in this time tended to be male. However more feminine or non-gender coloured ones will also be welcome! The scarves will be distributed through the RSAs in Canterbury. There will be tags to go on each scarf so learners can put their name on them if they would like. This could also contribute towards SVA hours if learners are participating.
The project will conclude on November 11, and all completed scarves can also be dropped off to our admin team labelled with Attn: Holly Swift and she will drop them off on your behalf. Wool and needles can be provided on request; contact Holly Swift to arrange this.
