From 10 November 2025, you’ll be able to tag on the bus with Motu Move – a new contactless way to pay on all Metro buses and ferries across Greater Christchurch.

Contactless debit/credit cards and digital wallets such as Google Pay and Apple Pay will be accepted on all Metro buses and ferries in Greater Christchurch.

Contactless payments cost the same as a standard Metro fare: $3 for buses and $5 for ferries. 

To receive discounted fees, (i.e., child (5-18 years) and youth (19-24 years)), transport users will need to continue using their Metrocard (or cash).
