Ready to Flourish in 2026: feeling good and functioning well

Our wellbeing kaupapa: Ready to Flourish (R2F)

At Rolleston College Horoeka Haemata, wellbeing is about more than just "being happy", it is about ensuring every individual is socially connected, purposeful, and balanced. While E Tū Tāngata provides the mindset, Ready to Flourish (R2F) provides the toolkit.

Guided by our whakataukī, ‘He kākano i ruia mai i Rangiātea – the seed shall not be lost,’ our mission is to ensure every learner can stand as the individual they are. R2F is an essential part of our curriculum, woven from the junior to senior school through Ako, Connected, and HPE.

Through our partnership with Tūturu and the integration of frameworks like Te Whare Tapa Whā and PERMA-V, we empower both staff and learners to build a personal wellbeing kete. By adopting a strengths-based approach and fostering resilience, we ensure our community has the resources to "feel good and function well" in the modern world.

Komodo: Our wellbeing data tool

We have partnered with Komodo, an online wellbeing platform that provides us with a high-level view of the hauora of our learners and staff.

In weeks 6 and 7, all learners will complete their term 1 survey. This data is vital, it allows us to move beyond guesswork and address the actual needs of our community.

Insight: The sleep gap

Our 2025 Komodo data revealed a significant trend: over 50% of Rolleston College learners feel they do not get enough sleep and struggle with poor sleep routines. As we know, sleep is a foundational pillar of the Ready to Flourish toolkit.

Sleep hygiene: Tips for your kete

To support our learners, here are five evidence-based shifts for better sleep hygiene:

  • Digital sunset: Remove artificial blue light (phones, TV, etc.) one hour before bed.

  • Consistency is key: Stick to a routine by going to bed at the same time each night.

  • Optimise the environment: Ensure your sleep space is quiet, cool, and calm.

  • Daily movement: Exercise during the day to help the body regulate rest at night.

  • Caffeine curfew: Limit caffeine intake in the afternoon and evening.

Integrated support: Our R2F specialist teams

To ensure that 'the seed shall not be lost', we provide a multi-layered support network that acts as a safety net for our school whānau.

Learn more and meet the team on our website.

Our counsellors and nurses work as an integrated health team, providing holistic care that addresses the mental, emotional, and physical dimensions of hauora. Working alongside them, our intervention team provides targeted navigation and guidance for learners who need extra support to thrive. Together, these professionals ensure that every student has access to the specific tools they need to stand tall and remain Ready to Flourish.
