Canterbury secondary schools athletics: Friday 20 March 2026

Our second day out at Canterbury secondary school athletics was just as successful as Tuesday, with a number of great performances by our squad.

On the track, our U17 boys’ 4x100m relay took top honours, with Joshua Cosgrove, Judah Lodoviko, Luke Angland and Conner Woodcock safely carrying the baton around the track in 45.65s. The same boys, in a different order, also took out the 4x400m – especially impressive given that all of them competed in other events on the day.

Our U17 girls’ 4x100m finished in second in their race – congratulations to Nicole Carshagen, Jess Potter, Emily Calvert and Amore Smit. They traded out Nicole for our middle distance star Elodie Wightman in the 4x400m to finish seventh.

In the U20 boys’ 100m prelims, Ben Calvert was 16th, while in the U17 boys’ race, Joshua Cosgrove was fourth in a new PB of 12.08s – almost spookily recording the exact time and placing in the final. Jack Helm was 23rd in the U15 boys’ prelims.

Zoe Hooper and Jess Potter made the finals of the U17 girls’ 100m, with Zoe taking out the final with a season’s best time later in the day, while Jess was seventh.

Nicole Carshagen was 34th in the U15 girls’ prelims of the event.

Oakley Herd (Kāi Tahu) won the U17 boys’ para 100m.

Our 400m runners had a tough schedule with both heats and finals on Friday, along with their respective relays. Judah Lodoviko showed his class in taking out the U17 boys’ final; Amore Smit was an excellent fourth in the U16 girls’ final (having recorded a season’s best in the prelims), and Jess Potter was fifth in the U17 girls’ final. Emily Calvert was 11th in the U15 girls’ prelims.

Our middle distance runners produced some excellent results with Luke Angland finishing first, in a new meet record of 4:11.18, in the U17 boys’ 1500m. Jarrod Harris was seventh in the same race, also dipping under the previous meet record and recording a new PB.

Ciaran Harris turned in a season’s best in finishing seventh in the U20 boys’ 1500m, while Matthew Drury was third with a new PB in the U15 boys’ race.

Elodie Wightman finished third in the U16 girls’ 1500m.

A trio of U15 boys threw well in discus, with Grayson Jobling taking top honours with a new PB of 35.72m, Ryder Te Tau (Kāi Tahu, Kāti Mamoe, Waitaha (Te Waipounamu)) taking third also with a PB, and Connor Hawes in fifth.

Grayson also competed in U15 boys’ high jump, joined by Jack Helm.

Emily Calvert was 16th in U15 girls’ long jump.

Taylan Endicott-Davies was second in his favoured hammer throw, and fifth in U20 javelin throw. Kyle Endicott-Davies won the U17 boys’ para javelin.

Arabelle Wightman threw a new PB of 9.27m in the U16 girls’ shot put for fourth place.

We wish all the very best to all our competitors who will take on athletes from around the South Island this weekend at Ngā Puna Wai!

Thanks again to all of our parent supporters and managers.
