NCEA co-requisite exams

We are preparing to facilitate the NCEA Literacy and Numeracy (CAA) exams at Rolleston College during weeks 5 and 6 of term two (Monday 18 May – Friday 29 May).

These are national online assessments that check whether students have the foundational reading, writing, and numeracy skills they’ll need to succeed in NCEA and beyond. Passing these is a requirement for all students to achieve NCEA Level 1, 2, or 3, so they’re a big deal, but also a great opportunity to get ahead early.

Important information for year 10 families

Due to the large number of year 10 learners sitting these exams, and to ensure we can provide the required space and special assessment conditions (SAC) for all candidates, all year 10 learners will be learning from home from Monday 18 May to Wednesday 20 May.

Here is the plan for our year 10 learners…

Learners sitting CAA exams will come to school only for their scheduled exam(s). Once their exam is finished, they will return home to continue their online learning.

Some year 10 learners have already passed these CAA exams, so learners not sitting the CAA exams will follow their usual timetable from home, accessing structured lessons via Google Classroom.

Year 10 learners involved in extracurricular activities are still welcome and encouraged to attend any scheduled practices or rehearsals onsite after school hours during these three days.

Key dates for year 10 learners sitting co-requisite exams

Monday 18 May: Year 10 Numeracy
Tuesday 19 May: Year 10 Writing
Wednesday 20 May: Year 10 Reading

Learners sitting these exams will receive an email shortly confirming their specific session time and venue (gym, auditorium, or Ngahuru/extension). This email will be sent to all year 10 learners entered in the exams with more specific details.

Here is the plan for learners from year 9, 11, 12, and 13 sitting the co-requisite exams…

Learners in these year levels who are sitting exams will remain on their normal timetable. They will be excused from class to sit their scheduled assessment and will return to their regular lessons immediately afterward to minimise disruption.

Week 6 (25 – 27 May): Co-requisite exams for years 9, 11, 12, and 13. Year 9 and 11 will sit exams at Te Kura Tuatahi (junior campus) and year 12 and 13 will sit exams at the Te Kura Tuarua (senior campus).

Week 6 (28 – 29 May): Final catch-up sessions for any learners who missed their initial assessment. These will be held at both Tuatahi (junior) and Tuarua (senior) campuses.

Learners sitting the exams will have access to revision resources and practice sessions. We encourage them to check their Google Classrooms regularly for preparation materials.Learners who are eligible for special assessment conditions (SAC) will be contacted individually by our learning support team.

If you are unsure whether your child has been entered for this round of exams, or if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact your learner's Ako or Advisory coach.
