Ellesmere College Te Kāreti o Waihora is seeking a dedicated Homestay Coordinator to manage our International Student Homestay Programme and ensure student welfare remains our top priority. You will recruit, assess, place, and support local host families while keeping our programme compliant with the Education (Pastoral Care of Tertiary and International Learners) Code of Practice 2021.
This role provides vital on-site presence for our International Office and offers active support to students and host families.
Key responsibilities
Homestay management: Recruit, vet, train, and conduct required home visits for homestay families.
Student pastoral support: Build strong rapport with international students, assist with orientation trips, and address homestay concerns.
Airport transfers: Manage and execute student airport pickups and drop-offs (primarily outside standard school hours).
Administration and compliance: Maintain accurate student records, manage police vetting, assist with NZQA self-reviews, and handle enrolment documentation.
After-hours support: Remain on call for urgent matters or emergencies involving students and host families.
Essential requirements
Driving capabilities (crucial): Full NZ Driver Licence with proven experience driving a manual vehicle, driving a school van, and towing/manoeuvring a trailer for student luggage.
Availability and flexibility: Willingness to work outside standard school hours (evenings, weekends, and school holidays for airport runs, events, and emergency support).
Background check: Ability to obtain a satisfactory police vet.
Work eligibility: Current right to work in New Zealand.
Skills and experience requirements
Experience in pastoral care, education, community services, or working with young people.
High cultural empathy, strong conflict resolution skills, and excellent communication.
Outstanding organisational abilities, high computer literacy, and strict attention to confidentiality.
A friendly, adaptable, 'can-do' attitude and a genuine desire to contribute to our school community.
