It has been another busy and productive fortnight for our senior learners as we moved through weeks 3 and 4 of term three. From celebrating community inclusivity to diving into future career planning and essential life skills, our year 12 and 13 learners have been actively engaged across a wide range of activities.

Week 3 highlights

Our school celebrated Inclusivity Week, with learners exploring daily themes and interactive activities designed to foster a welcoming, supportive environment for everyone. Advisory sessions also incorporated regular Hauora (Wellbeing) activities to keep learners grounded and focused.

🧠 Health, wellbeing and life skills

• Vaping, smoking and addiction: Learners engaged with health content focused on vaping and autonomy, discussing the impacts of addiction and strategies for making informed, healthy choices.
• Computer skills 101: Building on our practical life-skills series, learners covered essential computer tips and digital tools to help them streamline their schoolwork and day-to-day productivity.
• R2A: AI tools for study: Learners explored how to ethically and effectively utilise AI tools to enhance their study habits and academic efficiency.

🏆 House spirit

• Taskmaster Challenge: Four representatives from each Advisory group headed to the gym to compete in high energy, creative problem-solving challenges for Taskmaster Tuarua.

Week 4 highlights: Transforming Futures Week

🚀 Career planning and AI Interviews

As part of Transforming Futures Week, both year 12 and Year 13 learners engaged in targeted future focused workshops:

• AI informational career interviews: Learners utilised an AI tool to support their pathway directions and refine their career goals.
• Career readiness: Learners explored the school Careerwise website, double-checked course entry requirements, updated their CVs, and progressed their tertiary and scholarship applications.
• Course selection: Reminder for year 12s that subject selection is open now and they should be having discussions with their coach about next year. Subject selection closes at 5pm on Friday 28 August.

Year 12 candidates running for Head Student presented to their cohort, sharing their vision and leadership goals for the school community in 2027.

🎲 Health content: Gaming and boot boxes

Online purchases and gaming: Learners explored the mechanics of gaming addiction, focusing specifically on loot boxes and microtransactions to better understand financial and behavioral risks online.
