What do you get when you take over 111 kids, put them in nine different teams and send them all to seven different locations around Te Waipounamu? Just a typical Winter Tournament Week for Rolleston College, and this year did not disappoint!
Nothing brings people together more than common goals and our teams were shaped by the E Tū Tāngata values of You Have Value, Others Matter, and We Succeed Together. Our players took these onto the pitch, turf, court and showgrounds, and showed that while winning is fun, who they are as people, and how they behave on and off the field of play spoke more about them than the scoreboard did.
Whilst our thoughts naturally tend to lean toward the sports and the results, this is only part of the equation. While the kids get to experience the thrill of the victory and the agony of the defeat, none of this would even be possible without the support of our teachers, coaches, managers, parents, and sponsors.
The background work done to get our athletes to their destination, to compete in their events, fed, watered and kept playing to a high standard does not just happen, it is a calculated process consisting of spreadsheets, emails, shopping lists and countless volunteer hours. Our kura is extremely fortunate to have an incredible team of coaches, volunteers, coordinators and senior leaders who see the value of sport and how it can unite a school and for that, we say thank you!
