Careers and development: 25 September 2026

Walkthrough of the new school building

Our year 13 Design and Build, and year 12 Build classes had the opportunity to walk through the new school teaching block on Te Kura Tuarua this week. They were led by Grant from Brosnan’s who is the project manager for the build and he explained all the different trades that it takes to make our school possible. It was awesome insight into the details and teamwork from multiple areas to make a project come together.

MITO Drive Your Future

MITO came and ran an event on Tuesday 22 September for learners interested in automotive careers. They brought in employers from AB Equipment, and Rosie's Collision Repair, to talk about their career journeys and we got to hear from their apprentices. It was a great evening and a chance to learn more about apprenticeships.

Ōruawairua/Blumine Island youth leadership programme

This is an immersive eight-day programme where rangatahi step into conservation leadership, connecting heart, head, and hands to protect biodiversity.

Beginning at Waikawa Marae and finishing at Wild Waikawa participants travel to Ōruawairua Motu to continue the legacy of work with DOC which has brought this island to its predator-free status. On Ōruawairua, the first two days are spent learning about what needs to be done and how to do it, before the reigns are completely handed over to the students to collectively plan and execute living and working on the island.

Key outcomes:

  • Youth leadership through personal experience
  • Upholding predator-free status and providing a sanctuary for native flora and fauna
  • Feedback planning and action – in a context of biodiversity
  • Evaluation and implementation of new ideas
  • Cultural best practice and conservation
  • Encouraging community benefits for the Marlborough Sounds.

This immersive, overnight programme is funded, with full and partial scholarships available to ensure accessibility. Please note we are generally inundated with applications for the full scholarships so if ākonga have the means to raise the funds for a partial scholarship, we strongly recommend they apply for the partial.

Registrations are open now and close Sunday 11 October. Apply here!

Spaces are limited – get in early, and apply now!
