At the start of 2025 Rolleston College formed a partnership with the Sydney Roosters NRL club. Rolleston College became a hub for their South Island Roosters Academy, which brought players from all around the south to our college. Part of this partnership was receiving a scholarship for four students; two seniors and two juniors, worth $500 each. The scholarship is to support the recipients in their aspirations either in their chosen sports or in any other area.
When forming this partnership it was clear that Rolleston College and the Sydney Roosters values were aligned. The Sydney Roosters core values include Club First: Making decisions that prioritise the best interests of the club, its people, members, and community; Respect by valuing diversity, treating others with respect, and promoting fair and respectful behaviour; and teamwork by working together and rising up united to achieve a common goal of excellence.
This award recognises learners who excel both on and off the sports field in their chosen sports, and also live these values of club first, respect and teamwork. The two recipients of this scholarship promote these values in their roles as leaders in their teams, in their whānau and as we have seen today, in their learning too.
